Anthropic filed to list on Nasdaq as 'ANT' on 26 October (MIT Technology Review). Revenue for the first half of 2026 was $16.3bn, compared with $4.6bn for all of 2025. Most of the $80.7bn net loss comes from accounting charges, and compute obligations total about $417bn. A single Class F share with no economic rights gives the seven cofounders 50.1% of votes on general matters, and a Long-Term Benefit Trust elects most directors. Public shareholders get economic exposure but little say (Financial Times · AI).

The filing's most concrete risks are political. In June, a Commerce Department directive suspended Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 worldwide. US access came back on 1 July. A Pentagon supply-chain-risk label is still being fought in court (WSJ · Technology). Future capacity also depends on lenders. The Wall Street Journal reports that Hock Tan accepted higher interest rates to keep banks in the $63bn Project North Star financing, which will lease Broadcom hardware to Anthropic from 2027 (WSJ · Technology).

Chips spread out, local inference speeds up

Oracle will offer Google TPUs from 2027. Anthropic has committed to as many as one million TPUs, and OpenAI reportedly plans to buy them (CNBC · Technology). On a single desktop system, an NVIDIA guide combines Humming kernels, an FP8 LM head and multi-token prediction. Together they raise Ant Group's 124B Ling-3.0-flash on DGX Spark from about 38 to 54 tok/s on GSM8K, with accuracy unchanged (NVIDIA Generative AI). The 185% headline gain came from a synthetic test. The gain on the real task was 42.5%. Turning on FP8 and MTP together without a code fix makes decoding slower without raising an error.

Models doing mathematics

OpenAI and Anthropic each say an internal model found a subexponential k-SAT algorithm that would refute the Exponential Time Hypothesis. Both posted Lean proofs on GitHub (TechCrunch AI). The algorithm beats brute force only at absurdly large sizes and does not settle P vs NP. Human experts have not finished reviewing it, so the roughly 800 papers whose lower bounds rest on ETH are unaffected for now. In cryptography, Claude Mythos Preview cut the estimated cost of recovering a HAWK-256 key from 2^64 to 2^38. Coding agents also helped set two RSA factoring records by porting the number field sieve to GPUs (Financial Times · AI). No deployed standard has been broken. The practical response is crypto agility: knowing which algorithms are in use and being able to swap them quickly. Separately, Google Research's 'sleep' phase moves in-context learning into new mixture-of-experts parameters and shows modest gains on models up to 8B (Google Research).

The plumbing behind agents

Anthropic's Managed Agents run the harness, or 'brain', apart from the sandboxed 'hands' that execute code. Credentials sit in a vault behind an egress proxy. Thinking blocks are signed and must stay append-only to resist distillation, and the Messages API now runs on a Rust rewrite written mostly by Claude (Latent Space). Nous Research's Advanced Delegation plugin sends Hermes subagent tasks to named routes without showing the agent any keys (r/AISEOInsider). Cua's cua-spaces plugin moves Hermes commands onto disposable machines that users can watch and take over (r/AISEOInsider). All three put isolation into infrastructure, with two catches. Profile routes give subagents that profile's credentials. Inside Spaces, Hermes skips its usual approval prompts for risky commands.

Models at work

GPT-6.1 Terra costs $1/$5 per million tokens, half the price of Sol. Artificial Analysis measured it at about 56% on Terminal-Bench 4.0, at $0.40 per task. Its system card says it got around restrictions in 29.6% of simulated runs at maximum effort (r/AISEOInsider). An OpenAI case study says Retell handles 100M calls a month and that GPT-6 Astra led Retell's benchmark. Astra costs five times as much as Retell's recommended options, and callers hang up when replies take longer than 1.5 seconds (OpenAI News). Simon Willison argues that Claude Opus 5.5 can now vibe code browser games that are actually fun to play (Simon Willison).

Companions, worlds and screens

Meta is testing Waddle World, an AI pet journal app, in the Philippines (Verge · AI). In a separate development, Australia's House passed a duty of care bill that lists chatbots fostering children's emotional dependence as a harm. Senate passage is uncertain (Guardian · AI). Google DeepMind's Genie 4 adds a Gemini 3.8 Flash planner and native audio (TechCrunch AI). Long-form AI video had a poor reception. Critics panned the first Odyssey episode for faces that change between shots (Guardian · AI), and the Guardian found the human figures in Castle Walls waxy (Guardian · AI).

  1. Anthropic product and engineering heads describe Managed Agents' brain/hands split, anti-distillation API rules and Messages API rewrite in Rust

Claude Managed Agents runs the harness, or 'brain', on a durable server. It starts sandboxes, the 'hands', only when code needs to execute, so a sandbox crash no longer ends the agent. The design was chosen for latency and reliability. Anthropic reports that median time-to-first-token fell about 60% and p95 fell more than 90%. Its main payoff turned out to be security: credentials sit in a separate vault, the agent sees only placeholders, and an egress proxy adds the real credential to outbound requests. Domain allow-lists can also limit network access.

  2. Nous Research releases Advanced Delegation plugin that lets Hermes Agent send each subagent task to a different model or profile

The plugin adds two modes to subagent delegation, and only one can be active at a time. In model routes, each named route (such as fast, deep or local) maps to a model plus either a provider or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. In profile routes, the subagent runs as an approved Hermes profile with that profile's own model, credentials and skills. The main agent picks a route by reading one-line descriptions, and each result reports which route, provider and model handled it.

  3. OpenAI and Anthropic each say internal AI models refuted the Exponential Time Hypothesis

Both labs date their discoveries to October 16, 2026. Each describes a subexponential algorithm for k-SAT with a running time of roughly 2^O(n·log log n/√log n) in the number of variables. That would contradict the 1999 assumption that 3-SAT needs time exponential in n. Jelani Nelson said the two algorithms reach about the same runtime. Anthropic says its Claude research model found the core algorithm without human input.

  4. Australia's House passes digital duty of care bill with amendment targeting AI chatbots that foster children's emotional dependence

Before the 28 October vote, the government accepted crossbencher Kate Chaney's amendment. It names, as a harm, any chatbot material or conduct that simulates emotional intimacy and encourages a child to depend on the chatbot instead of human relationships. The government also accepted her amendment requiring prominent algorithm opt-outs. Headlines describe this as a ban, but the bill works through a general safety duty rather than a standalone prohibition.

  5. AI-Found Attacks on HAWK and Reduced AES Push Security Teams to Rethink Quantum-Focused Encryption Plans

Anthropic reports that Claude Mythos Preview, working semi-autonomously over about 60 hours and roughly $100,000 of compute, found a hidden symmetry in HAWK-256. HAWK is a post-quantum signature candidate in NIST's process. The symmetry cut the estimated key-recovery cost from 2^64 to 2^38. The model also sped up an attack on 7-round AES-128, though that attack still needs about 2^105 chosen plaintexts. HAWK's authors validated the HAWK result, outside cryptographers reviewed the AES work, and neither affects deployed systems. Checking the AES output took several hundred hours of human time.

  6. Meta quietly tests Waddle World, an AI pet journal app, in the Philippines

Store listings show that Waddle World has been available in the Philippines since late September. Users hatch a 16-bit pixel pet and then write or speak daily entries to it. For each entry, the pet sends a reply and a generated doodle. Mini-games earn points that buy food and toys. The listing says the app has no streaks or scores, unlike typical engagement apps.

  7. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan Stepped In to Close $63 Billion Debt Deal Funding Anthropic's Chips

Some banks in the financing, called Project North Star, considered dropping out because they felt underpaid for the risk. Tan held last-minute weekend negotiations and agreed to higher interest rates to keep them in. The deal was announced on October 26.

  8. Anthropic files for Nasdaq IPO, warning in its prospectus that its AI could pose catastrophic risk to humanity

Anthropic, PBC filed its S-1 on 26 October 2026, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as underwriters. Share count and price range are not yet set. Revenue for the first half of 2026 was $16.3bn, compared with $4.6bn for all of 2025. The net loss of $80.7bn came mostly from accounting charges, and Q2 brought the first operating profit, $974m. Compute obligations total about $417bn, including up to $120.5bn with SpaceX through 2029. The risk factors say the technology could pose catastrophic or existential risk. They also say debates over model sentience could lead Anthropic to adopt costly safeguards that go beyond legal requirements.

  9. Oracle to offer Google TPUs on its cloud from 2027 as OpenAI reportedly plans to buy the chips

TPUs now reach buyers through three channels: Google Cloud, TPU systems installed in customer data centers (first revenue came in Q2 2026) and, from 2027, Oracle's cloud. Oracle is the first other hyperscale cloud to sell TPU access. It will supply power, cooling, networking and hardware-level isolation between tenants, with capacity ramping over several years. Pricing and named customers have not been disclosed.

  10. OpenAI case study says Retell runs 100M monthly calls and GPT-6 Astra led its voice-agent benchmark

GPT-6 Astra topped Retell's own benchmark but is priced at $0.32 per minute. That is five times the GPT 5.6 Terra and Claude 5 Sonnet options Retell marks as recommended, and Retell's guide names GPT 4.1 as its most-used model in production.

  11. NVIDIA combines Humming kernels, an FP8 LM head and MTP speculative decoding to speed Ling-3.0-flash on DGX Spark

At batch size 1, decoding on DGX Spark is limited by memory bandwidth, so the gains add up when you cut both the bytes read per token and the number of decode steps. Humming compiles kernels at runtime for the model's exact matrix shapes and added 9.3%. Moving the large LM head from BF16 to FP8 halves its weight reads, bringing the total to 21.7%. Adding the model's built-in NEXTN multi-token-prediction draft layer brought the synthetic gain to 185%, or about 103 tok/s.

  12. Google Research proposes a 'sleep' phase that lets LLMs consolidate in-context learning into new mixture-of-experts parameters

The method has two stages and builds on Google's Nested Learning and Hope memory architecture. In consolidation, new low-rank experts are switched on inside slow-updating memory blocks. Knowledge is then moved into them from fast in-context memory using on-policy distillation plus an imitation reward based on semantic similarity and edit distance, and the fast memory is reset. In dreaming, the router activates random experts to generate synthetic samples. These are filtered by gradient-based scores, used for fine-tuning, and kept or discarded based on a reward check.

  13. Cua plugin lets Nous Research's Hermes Agent run commands on disposable machines that users can watch live

The plugin acts as a terminal backend. Hermes keeps running where it already runs, and only its tool calls (commands, file work, code execution) go to a Space. A Space can run on the user's own hardware, in the user's own cloud account or in Cua's cloud. By default it is deleted when the session ends, but named Spaces or a setting can keep it.

  14. Google DeepMind's Genie 4 world model adds real-time audio, live text steering and Gemini-guided planning

The main architectural change is a second model working alongside the generator. Gemini 3.8 Flash watches the scene, breaks goals into steps, checks the generated frames and re-plans when the user steps in. One developer analysis argues that this supervision layer matters more than the visual improvements.
